Pros
gives parents an idea of how their child's classroom is performing
how is my child doing compared to other kids?
In which schools are students performing well? - I'll send my child there.
Gives my child practise writing standardized tests which she/he will meet often as she/he progresses in school.
Allows an opportunity to discuss various methods of assessment and pros and cons with my child.
Cons
Standardized tests stress out my child!
Why use all this class time when the marks are not recorded on my child's report card?
Doesn`t show my child`s improvement.
The marker does not know my child. I can learn more about my child's progress through a five minute conversation with his/her teacher.
They may not understand how to interpret the results properly
I didn't get the results until months after my child wrote the tests
